Animal Health Diagnostic Center
The College of Veterinary Medicine has a distinguished history of diagnostic services dating back to the 1910s under the leadership of Dr. Veranus Alva Moore, second dean of the college, who was himself a pathologist and bacteriologist. A throughline of that history has been the longstanding pursuit of equine health, safety and productivity at the Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC) & New York State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.
The depth and breadth of testing offered by the AHDC is unmatched and serves veterinary professionals in New York, the United States and beyond. Equine disease diagnostics and surveillance are key responsibilities of the AHDC, in partnership with the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, to help prevent spread of disease and maintain the health of equid populations. Its Veterinary Support Services team of veterinarians and outreach professionals work with equine practitioners worldwide on test selection, testing strategies, result interpretation and general educational outreach.
Comprehensive laboratory services facilitate a broad range of diagnostic investigations, including, but not limited to, endocrine disorders, infectious disease, preventive wellness screening, reproductive health and regulatory testing required for exhibition and travel. Research and development occurs continuously behind the scenes at the AHDC to improve testing and to meet the changing needs of the equine industry.
